Having overseen the stunning re-ordering of the interior of this impressive Grade 2 listed Hampshire Church in 2020, Nye Saunders are looking forward to assisting in the re-roofing project due to begin on site shortly.
Originally designed by Sir Arthur Blomfield in 1891, St Mary’s was extended by the addition of a tower in 1930 designed by Sir Edward Maufe, described as Gothic in conception with rows of square bell openings.
If you look closely at the image below you may see a resemblance to one of Maufe’s more well know Surrey buildings. Maufe was the Architect responsible for the design of Guildford Cathedral which was a 30 year long project interrupted by the Second World War.
A family member or friend of yours may even have been involved in the ‘Buy-a-Brick’ fundraising campaign which was contributed to by almost every Surrey schoolchild at the time.
