Bespoke Projects – Planning Ahead

Anyone undertaking a new build or renovation project will know, it can be a lengthy process. Without the right team it can also become more of a daunting than an exciting experience.

It’s important to commission professionals who take the time to understand your style and what you want to achieve, and who you trust to interpret your vision.

The decisions that need to be made can be overwhelming. An experienced team will ensure you have a stress-free, enjoyable journey. After all, it’s likely to be one of the biggest investments you ever make, so getting the right experts in place is critical.

The most important part of the process is the brief as this sets out exactly what you want. The briefing process can reveal opportunities you hadn’t considered and result in a bespoke design rather than an “off the peg” product.

A good architect and interior designer will make you think more deeply about what is driving the project and what your priorities, likes and dislikes are.

Before embarking on a project:

  • Think carefully about what you want to achieve.

  • List out your likes and dislikes.

  • Consider your priorities – e.g. sustainability, cost, future proofing spaces etc.

  • Sharing images of the sort of things you like is often very useful, particularly for clients who struggle to articulate their creative ideas.

  • Be realistic and open about your budget – don’t be afraid to tell your architect and interior designer what your budget is, thinking we will then spend it all – without an idea of budget we can’t advise about what is realistically achievable.

  • Plan ahead. Agreeing designs and defining specifications as early as possible will make for a much more efficient project and ultimately avoid costly mistakes. Making changes at an early stage is far cheaper than when the project is on site. Be sure that you understand the proposals fully when they are still “on paper” – ask your architect and interior designer if you are unsure about anything – they will want to help you to realise your dream.

Why commission an architect and interior design team?

  1. Great communication between your architect and interior designer is crucial to the success of a project and will ensure that you end up with the best possible design.

  2. As architects and interiors designers, we can see both the big picture and the detail and are able to work with your contractor to execute the design.

  3. We bring a complimentary skillset which will elevate the final outcome. We consider both the aesthetic and the practical. We are firm believers that collaboration breeds creativity!

  4. Perhaps the most important area where we can add value, is saving our clients time and money. Careful planning and anticipating implications of a particular design element, avoids rushed decisions and allows us to eliminate unnecessary costs.
