Working with the engineers Cooper & Withycombe, Nye Saunders were known to Guildford Borough Council for their conservation work and were approached in 2013 by Cooper & Withycombe to assist with carrying out a general conditions survey of the building.
Out of this a repairs programme was developed to be carried out in a number of phases. The first phase being taking down of an unstable Victorian chimney and repairs to an earlier mediaeval chimney and adjacent clunch waling.
A scheduled ancient monument consent was then negotiated and obtained from Historic England and Listed Building Consent approval was also obtained after discussions with the Council’s own conservation team.
